Galvalume is becoming increasingly popular among Solar MMS manufacturers and EPC companies. Unlike Hot-Dip Galvanized materials, which are coated only with zinc, Galvalume is a blend of aluminum, zinc, and a small proportion of silicon. Additionally, the production time for Galvalume structures is reduced as there is no need to send the structures to hot-dip plants after fabrication.
Galvalume combines the toughness, strength, and self-healing properties of zinc with the rust-resistant properties of aluminum. Its self-healing characteristics help control red rusting at any cut or exposed edges, which is crucial for the solar industry.
Key features of Galvalume include:
- An alloy-coated product containing 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon by weight, applied through a hot-dipping process.
- Combining the best properties of both aluminum and zinc, Galvalume is a highly corrosion-resistant coated steel. It offers the barrier protection, heat reflectivity, and extended durability of aluminum coatings, along with the galvanic protection of cut edges and formability of zinc coatings.
- The product has a shiny, attractive appearance and can be used without painting.
Galvalume, being corrosion-resistant, is coated with a 40-micron thick layer of protective material. This coating ensures that the steel has high durability and strength, with a yield strength of 550 MPa. Moreover, the material can last up to 25 years, making it a highly cost-effective option.
